2012 Preakness Stakes Preview
Historically, it’s tough to cash a nice ticket in the Preakness. Four of the last ten Kentucky Derby winners have won the Preakness and of the other six, three finished second, one third, one flopped and one was the ill-fated Barbaro.
In the Mancave’s opinion, it will be tough to make anything more than walking around money on this year’s Preakness.
Many of the top colts that raced in the Derby have passed here to try the Belmont, and the new blood doesn’t appear to have the credentials to even crack the board.
Internet Mancave makes this a three horse race between the top Derby finishers I’ll Have Another, Bodemeister, and Creative Cause. If Bodemeister runs back to the way he did at Lexington, he should easily bottom out this field and run off easily. I’ll Have Another has the tactical speed to drop in behind the Baffert horse and stalk the leader but will he be able to run the pacesetter down at the shorter distance and shorter stretch ??? Creative Cause ran a monster race in the Derby and can’t help but get a better trip here but he’s been outgamed before and might be a notch below these.
In the end, we like Bodemeister to best I’ll Have Another with Creative Cause and Teeth of the Dog rounding out your Superfecta. How do you like and why ??? Comments welcomed and encouraged !!!
